It is free, so use accordingly.IRS Forms, Instructions, and Publications are at the official IRS site for downloading (these are text links for faster response). You will also want Adobe Acrobat ReaderOther Sites to visit:software. It's free (nada, nichts, gratis, niente, etc.) and available for most systems. The Reader software allows one to view and print materials so they look like originals. Documents at the IRS, the states, and many other sites are stored with the PDF (portable document format) extension which Reader can translate. If the IRS site is busy, try Maxwell Technologies or Drake Software. These two companies provide a valuable alternative to the IRS site. Drake also has its own collection of many state tax forms if you cannot find what you need from the official sites (see next link).

University of Florida Payroll Services non-employee compensation rules with the infamous 20 IRS questions for distinguishing employees from consultants, information on visa classifications, payments to U.S. residents vs. aliens, tax treaties, etc. This is a 5 star site and thanks to its author, Murphy Miller.

The Securities and Exchange Commission has a database, named EDGAR, of electronically filed financial information from public companies. Not just for accountants; you can also use it to get the name and address of corporate officers to send them a letter when their toll-call help line becomes a helpless line. The SEC will be happy to hear about this very practical use.
